Network Marketing MindsetThe secret to success in network marketing, or any home business, starts with your mindset. Discovering and maintaining the proper network marketing mindset is probably the single biggest stumbling block for most people; yet it can be as simple as making 5 conscious decisions.

1) Decide you want to make money.

Many people enter into a business opportunity with the idea that they will try out the products, make a few referrals, and see how it goes. There is nothing wrong with being a consumer, but if you want to actually make money with your opportunity, then you must make the conscious decision to be more than just a consumer. When you make the decision that you want to make money, it will lead you to a natural course of action to build a successful business that is different than if you are just seeing how it goes.

2) Decide you have the right business.

The second aspect of a successful mindset is to believe in your business. You build this by taking the time to analyze the business before you jump in. It’s not difficult to do.

The right business vehicle has several qualities:

  • Enduring, growing demand for your product or service
  • Quality products for which customers are willing to repurchase, as demonstrated through customer and distributor retention
  • A multi year track record of success, demonstrating the ability to survive competition, survive the scrutiny of regulators, survive growth and expansion, and survive changes in the competitive landscape

When you have done your homework up front and you know these qualities are in place, you can rest easy.

3) Decide you have the courage to persist.

Success doesn’t come without having to pay the price. There will be ups and downs, wins and disappointments. You have to know in your heart that the price is worth it and decide you have the courage to persist, without exception.

The pay off with your home business isn’t always very obvious in the beginning. Think of your investment in time and effort as similar to the effects of compound interest. When you double your money every day starting with just a penny, you only have just over $10,000 after 21 days, but you end up with over $5 million after 30. In fact, 80% of the total growth occurs in the last 3 days. There is a tipping point at which the impact of the compound becomes extraordinary.

Your business is the same and so having faith in yourself and your business is a pre-requisite.

4) Decide to master your craft.

Another key aspect of the successful network marketing mindset is to be the master of your craft. By becoming knowledgeable about your products and your industry, you gain confidence in you ability to speak about them and you build your belief in what you do. This is why becoming a student of your products is so essential.

5) Decide your business is legitimate.

Multi-level marketing (MLM), network marketing and the home business industry in general can come across as an industry of schemers and dreamers. In many circles it has a negative reputation and is perceived to be seedy or unethical. And the reputation is not completely undeserved.

However, regardless of the particular opportunity you choose to get started with, your business is ultimately yours. So make the decision that you operate a legitimate, ethical business and then conduct yourself accordingly. When you make the decision that you are ethical in your business, it enables you to filter out all of the nonsense around you – you can be confident in knowing that, regardless of what others may be doing, you operate your business in a solid, upstanding manner.
