Discovering and maintaining the proper network marketing mindset is probably the single biggest stumbling block for most people; yet it can be as simple as making 5 conscious decisions.</p>
<p><strong>1) Decide you want to make money.</strong></p>
<p>Many people enter into a business opportunity with the idea that they will try out the products, make a few referrals, and see how it goes.  There is nothing wrong with being a consumer, but if you want to actually make money with your opportunity, then you must make the conscious decision to be more than just a consumer.  When you make the decision that you want to make money, it will lead you to a natural course of action to build a successful business that is different than if you are just seeing how it goes.</p>
<p><strong>2) Decide you have the right business.</strong></p>
<p>The second aspect of a successful  mindset is to believe in your business.  You build this by taking the time to analyze the business before you jump in.  It’s not difficult to do.</p>
<p>The right business vehicle has several qualities:</p>
<ul>
<li>Enduring, growing demand for your product or service</li>
<p>	
<li>Quality products for which customers are willing to repurchase, as demonstrated through customer and distributor retention</li>
<p>	
<li>A multi year track record of success, demonstrating the ability to survive competition, survive the scrutiny of regulators, survive growth and expansion, and survive changes in the competitive landscape</li>
</ul>
<p>When you have done your homework up front and you know these qualities are in place, you can rest easy.</p>
<p><strong>3) Decide you have the courage to persist.</strong></p>
<p>Success doesn’t come without having to pay the price.  There will be ups and downs, wins and disappointments.  You have to know in your heart that the price is worth it and decide you have the courage to persist, without exception.</p>
<p>The pay off with your home business isn’t always very obvious in the beginning. Think of your investment in time and effort as similar to the effects of compound interest.  When you double your money every day starting with just a penny, you only have just over $10,000 after 21 days, but you end up with over $5 million after 30.  In fact, 80% of the total growth occurs in the last 3 days.  There is a tipping point at which the impact of the compound becomes extraordinary.</p>
<p>Your business is the same and so having faith in yourself and your business is a pre-requisite.</p>
<p><strong>4) Decide to master your craft.</strong></p>
<p>Another key aspect of the successful network marketing mindset is to be the master of your craft.  By becoming knowledgeable about your products and your industry, you gain confidence in you ability to speak about them and you build your belief in what you do.  This is why becoming a student of your products is so essential.</p>
<p><strong>5) Decide your business is legitimate.  </strong></p>
<p>Multi-level marketing (MLM), network marketing and the home business industry in general can come across as an industry of schemers and dreamers.  In many circles it has a negative reputation and is perceived to be seedy or unethical.  And the reputation is not completely undeserved.</p>
<p>However, regardless of the particular opportunity you choose to get started with, your business is ultimately yours.  So make the decision that you operate a legitimate, ethical business and then conduct yourself accordingly. <p>The second tip is this:  specialized knowledge builds confidence.  Success in business, especially as an entrepreneur, is about the application of specialized knowledge.</p>
<p>If that statement seems odd to you, consider this question:  who earns more in his practice, the general practitioner or the specialist?  It is always the specialist.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s another often overlooked fact: your company will only have enduring success if it offers a relevant product people want to buy and will continue to repurchase. You mindset is one such critical element. Your ability to sell more in your network marketing business ultimately comes down to one essential mindset shift that, surprisingly, most network marketers seem unwilling to make.</p>
<p>That shift is this: <strong>a willingness to invest in yourself and your own success</strong>.</p>

In short, they avoid making any meaningful investment in themselves.</p>
<p>In contrast, the most successful leaders in the home business and network marketing industries invest in themselves first and foremost. They invest in programs to assist their learning and, most importantly, they invest in becoming a product of the products they represent. They recognize that while such investment may be uncomfortable, it is the level of investment they are willing to make in themselves that will determine the level of success they enjoy.</p>
<p>Ultimately this boils down to an issue of <strong>integrity</strong>. You will only ever attract who you are being in your own business. If you are being a fearful business owner who is unwilling to invest in the very products you represent, or is unwilling to invest in and grow your business, why would you expect others to purchase those products from you and freely invest in themselves? And why would they be willing to invest in you?</p>
<p>The people who get started with you in your business are people who relate to you in some way. That&#8217;s the basis of relationship marketing, which is what network marketing ultimately is. They will tend to follow your lead and do what you do. Consequently, the example you set matters immensely.</p>
<p>If you are finding that you are attracting the &#8220;wrong&#8221; type of people into your business, use that as your clue to examine closely who you are actually being. Make the necessary corrections and set the example you expect others in your organization to emulate. Become a &#8220;product of the product&#8221; which is ultimately the essence of successful network marketing. Understand that the more you invest in yourself, the more others will invest in you.</p>

Do you catch yourself wondering why your business opportunity isn&#8217;t working for you and what you&#8217;re doing wrong? If you do, keep reading because I&#8217;m about to share with you one of the basic &#8220;secrets&#8221; to network marketing success.</p>
<p>Here it is: your mindset is the foundation of your business.</p>
<p>Todd Falcone is a very successful network marketer and speaker. One of the concepts he teaches that I really like is his basic equation for business success. Todd&#8217;s equation is very simple:</p>
<p>Mindset + Skillset + Action = Results</p>
<p>What I like to do is take those components and visualize them within a three piece pyramid. Mindset is the foundational layer of the pyramid. Skillset sits on top of Mindset. And action is the top layer, sitting upon Skillset. The pyramid itself represents your business success, or your results.</p>
<p>I like to illustrate business success in this way because it emphasizes the idea that your mindset is a prerequisite to building a successful business. Without a healthy, successful mindset, you have a weak foundation that will crumble at the first sign of adversity.</p>
<p><strong>When you&#8217;re focused on what&#8217;s wrong, that&#8217;s your clue</strong></p>
<p>When you catch yourself asking questions such as those we led off this article with, that&#8217;s your clue that you have work to do on your mindset. Truth be told, you will always have work to do on your mindset because you can always improve. But make no mistake, if you are stuck wondering what you&#8217;re doing wrong and why it isn&#8217;t working, you have a mindset problem.</p>
<p>As soon as you catch yourself asking questions where you are looking for what&#8217;s wrong, stop. Instead try looking for what is working. Ask &#8220;what am I doing right?&#8221; &#8220;What is working for me right now?&#8221;</p>
<p>And as you identify the things that are working, you begin to establish a mental foundation of success you can build upon. You will naturally begin to be inspired with additional ideas and thoughts that will serve you to strengthen your business. In short, you will begin to strengthen your mindset.</p>
<p>The most successful people in this industry have an unshakeable mindset which serves as the foundation of everything they do. They set doubt, fear and worry aside and remain focused on building upon what is right with their business and what is working. That&#8217;s the &#8220;secret&#8221; to creating a successful business mindset and that&#8217;s the basic, foundational secret to building a successful network marketing business.</p>

<p>You dream of changing your life and building the life of your dreams. There&#8217;s a burning desire within you that has compelled you to start a home based business, a network marketing opportunity, or respond to yet another income opportunity ad.</p>
<p>Yet, in spite of that initial enthusiasm that got you going, you now find yourself confronted with the realities of building a business properly. It requires an investment of time, energy &#8230; and money. And when it comes to the money, that&#8217;s when the walls go up and you suddenly hear yourself speaking those immortal words: &#8220;I can&#8217;t afford this&#8221;.</p>
<p>Does this sound familiar? How do you overcome this affordability problem?</p>
<p>Well , in the words of Pat Mesiti, the renowned motivational speaker and millionaire coach, &#8220;you do not have an affordability problem, you have a PRIORITY problem&#8221;.</p>
<p>With very rare exceptions, your statement that &#8220;I can&#8217;t afford this&#8221; is a mindset issue and not a financial issue at all.</p>
<p>If you don&#8217;t believe me, play along with me for a couple of minutes, and answer these questions.</p>
<ol>
<li>Do you smoke? If the answer is &#8220;yes&#8221;, how many packs a day do you smoke? Depending on where you live, a pack of cigarettes a day costs in the range of $9 to $10. So a pack a day smoker is spending as much as $250 to $300 per month for the privilege.</li>
<p>
<li>Do you drink alcohol? How much do you spend per month on beer, wine or spirits? If you&#8217;re a casual drinker, it&#8217;s not uncommon to be spend upwards of $100 per month or more, even as a casual drinker.</li>
<p>
<li>Do you gamble? Depending on where you live and whether gambling is legal, do you like to get out to play the slot machines, video terminals, keno, blackjack or what have you? Do you make a holiday out of it and hit a gambling destination. It&#8217;s not uncommon for the average person to spend $100 to $200 per month or more on gambling as a form of entertainment.</li>
<p>
<li>Do you play the lottery? $10 per week playing the lottery is $520 per year.</li>
<p>
<li>Do you like to buy a coffee at Starbucks every day? There&#8217;s another $15 per week or more ($780 per year)</li>
</ol>
<p>These five points are examples, but if they all apply to you, then you are spending as much as $7000 or more per year on this simple list of discretionary items. How many more similar examples can you come up with?</p>
<p>So now let me ask you this question: How do any of the above expenditures assist you in building a better life and move you closer to living the life of your dreams? The answer of course is that they don&#8217;t.</p>
<p>One of the truths I&#8217;ve learned in my self-improvement journey and in the course of building my home business is that the only person who can change me is me. Similarly, the only person who can change you is you. You will only be willing to change dependent upon the strength of the vision you have for yourself and the degree to which you really want it.</p>
<p>So the question for you becomes, are you willing to reprioritize things in your life to allow you to begin investing in yourself and your future? How important is it for you really? Do you believe strongly enough in your vision for yourself and your better future that you&#8217;re willing to change around some of your priorities.</p>
<p>The answer to that question will be evident in your actions.</p>

<p>Since 2005, I&#8217;ve been earnestly studying highly successful network marketing leaders. One of the interesting discoveries I&#8217;ve made is that there really aren&#8217;t that many key success traits they have in common &#8211; there really are only a couple of core characteristics that seem to make all the difference between the rare few who experience enormous success and the 95% (or more) who don&#8217;t.</p>
<p><strong>Expectation Is Everything</strong></p>
<p>One very simple and surprising characteristic that seems to be universal amongst the MLM and network marketing superstars is they only ever expect to succeed. Every single one them holds an absolutely unshakable belief that they will have nothing less than all out massive success. In their mind, success can&#8217;t possibly not happen.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ve no doubt heard it said many times before that success in network marketing is 95% mindset, and so here&#8217;s another illustration of that cliché being true.</p>
<p>Everything the successful network marketers do &#8211; every thought, every word, every action &#8211; is postured with an expectation of success.</p>
<p>The true network marketing leaders operate from a knowingness that they are on the right path and that massive results and success are already on their way to them.</p>
<p>For them, this deep faith and belief, this knowingness, never wavers. Never.</p>
<p><strong>Expectation Breeds Consistency</strong></p>
<p>And because network marketers are consistently operating from the position of confident expectation, they are quite naturally prone to be confident and decisive around taking steps forward in their business. Rather than becoming paralyzed by self doubt or disbelief, they keep moving consistently forward trusting themselves and expecting their decisions to pay off.</p>
<p>Conversely, the average network marketer is often hesitant and fearful about what should be simple decisions regarding things such as where to advertise or what their 1-800 greeting should say. They are prone to second guessing themselves and keep looking for what&#8217;s wrong with whatever they&#8217;ve done.</p>
<p>Stepping back and observing the contrast in these behaviours has convinced me that network marketing success is predominantly about mindset. If you&#8217;re not one of the superstars already generating a multiple six (or even seven) figure income, then you can rest assured you have work to do in building your mindset to the point you carry a rock solid expectation of success.</p>

<p>Here it is: your mindset is the foundation of your business.</p>
<p>Todd Falcone is a very successful network marketer and speaker. One of the concepts he teaches that I really like is his basic equation for business success. Todd&#8217;s equation is very simple:</p>
<p>Mindset + Skillset + Action = Results</p>
<p>What I like to do is take those components and visualize them within a three piece pyramid. Mindset is the foundational layer of the pyramid. Skillset sits on top of Mindset. And action is the top layer, sitting upon Skillset. The pyramid itself represents your business success, or your results.</p>
<p>I like to illustrate business success in this way because it emphasizes the idea that your mindset is a prerequisite to building a successful business. Without a healthy, successful mindset, you have a weak foundation that will crumble at the first sign of adversity.</p>
<p><strong>When you&#8217;re focused on what&#8217;s wrong, that&#8217;s your clue</strong></p>
<p>When you catch yourself asking questions such as those we led off this article with, that&#8217;s your clue that you have work to do on your mindset. Truth be told, you will always have work to do on your mindset because you can always improve. But make no mistake, if you are stuck wondering what you&#8217;re doing wrong and why it isn&#8217;t working, you have a mindset problem.</p>
<p>As soon as you catch yourself asking questions where you are looking for what&#8217;s wrong, stop. Instead try looking for what is working. Ask &#8220;what am I doing right?&#8221; &#8220;What is working for me right now?&#8221;</p>
<p>And as you identify the things that are working, you begin to establish a mental foundation of success you can build upon. You will naturally begin to be inspired with additional ideas and thoughts that will serve you to strengthen your business. In short, you will begin to strengthen your mindset.</p>
<p>The most successful people in this industry have an unshakeable mindset which serves as the foundation of everything they do. They set doubt, fear and worry aside and remain focused on building upon what is right with their business and what is working. That&#8217;s the &#8220;secret&#8221; to creating a successful business mindset and that&#8217;s the basic, foundational secret to building a successful network marketing business.</p>

<p><font size="+2"><strong>N</strong></font>etwork marketing or MLM business growth is ultimately about your ability to sell.  It is unavoidable and up-line advisors who tell you that you do not need to do any sales are really ultimately misleading you.   Having said that, what you are selling is not your product or services &#8212; rather it is you.</p>
<p>The irony is that by not being focused on selling and instead allowing your focus to be on how you can best serve the other person will result in your becoming far more effective as a salesperson.  That&#8217;s why the best sales people &#8220;don&#8217;t sell&#8221; and that&#8217;s really what your up-line advisor means when they say they are not selling.</p>
<p><font size="+1" color="#cc3300">You are selling yourself, but you&#8217;re doing that by not focusing on the sale</font></p>
<p>Understand that your multi-level marketing or direct sales network marketing business has products that ultimately must be sold in order for your to share in the profit or commission.  From the point-of-view of your company, that&#8217;s the purpose of its network marketing distribution channel; to sell more product.</p>
<p>And recognize that sales is generally the <strong>highest paid </strong>profession in the world because few people do it well.  So don&#8217;t recoil at the notion that your compensation depends on people buying, but rather understand that people will ultimately sell themselves.  Your job is simply to facilitate the process for them.</p>
<p>This may or may not sound like a no brainer to you, but the reason you need to acknowledge this is because it puts you in the right frame of mind and with a clear set of intentions when you approach your prospect.  Your intention is to be a good tour guide so that your prospect can get the information he or she needs to make an informed decision about whether not your product or opportunity is for him or her.</p>
<p>When it comes to prospecting, there are <strong>three basic stages</strong>. There is a relationship building stage in which you establish whether there&#8217;s a reasonable fit, a presentation stage in which the information about the product or opportunity is presented, and a follow-up stage in which you&#8217;re really focused on collecting your prospect&#8217;s decision.</p>

<p><font size="+1" color="#cc3300">Understand your role and the appropriate mindset in each of the prospecting stages</font></p>
<p>When you meet a prospect for the first time, your focus should be on establishing if there is a reasonable fit between what you have to offer and what your prospect is looking for.  If there is no reasonable fit, what is the point of &#8220;selling&#8221; your product or opportunity.  Your prospect is not going to buy anyway.</p>
<p>In fact, until you&#8217;ve established that there is a reasonable fit, your prospect isn&#8217;t even really a prospect.  He or she is really just a lead.  You lead becomes a prospect after you&#8217;ve established there&#8217;s a reasonable fit.  And the only way you can do that effectively is to have a conversation in which you listen to what your prospect is telling you.</p>
<p>So your mindset during this stage of the conversation is &#8220;how can I best serve this person?&#8221;  You may conclude you can&#8217;t.  And that&#8217;s okay; in fact, often by being open and honest about that you will help the other person immensely.  And you can&#8217;t serve the other person well if you&#8217;re preoccupied with making a sale.</p>
<p><font size="+1" color="#cc3300">During your presentation, your mindset is on effectively communicating what you have to offer</font></p>
<p>Likewise, when you are in the product or opportunity presentation stage, which only happens after you&#8217;ve established there&#8217;s a reasonable fit, your focus is on communicating what you have to offer.  That&#8217;s it.  It&#8217;s still not about making the sales.  Be confident and clear, and explain the value. When your intention is very clear, your prospect will be focused and alert as opposed to worrying about the hard sell.</p>
<p>Finally the right mindset is also very important in the follow stage as well.  This is the stage where you collect the decision.  That&#8217;s all you can do.  Remember, prospects sell themselves, you don&#8217;t sell your prospects.</p>
<p><font size="+1" color="#cc3300">Your prospect&#8217;s job is to sell him or herself (or not); yours is to collect the decision</font></p>
<p>So even in the follow up stage your mindset is not on making the sale; it&#8217;s simply on collecting the decision.  Some will, some won&#8217;t.  So what, someone&#8217;s waiting.</p>
<p>And make no mistake, when your prospect decides to buy, he or she has decided to buy you.  It&#8217;s your example and leadership that you&#8217;ve demonstrated by being unattached to the outcome of the process in terms of the sale and instead being focused on assisting him or her through the process.  That&#8217;s what makes a great &#8220;sales person&#8221;.<br />
It&#8217;s attraction marketing at its finest.</p>
<p>In your network marketing business, learn to adopt the mindset of and position yourself as the consultant or the tour guide.  By doing that, you will separate yourself from the 90% to 95% of MLM and network marketers who are focused on the sale and, in so doing, you will outsell them all.</p>
